Cristian Velasco’s work focuses on the human and social space, exploring the domestic and the urban, the discarded and the decorative, the conceptual and aesthetic problems associated with memory, the body, territory, and habitat. Interested in the work process and the displacement and recycling of objects, his pieces vary from painting to graphics, objects, textiles, videos, performance, and installation.
A Social Communicator with studies in painting and a degree in Visual Arts in 2002, his works are displayed individually and collectively both in Chile and abroad.
In 2012 he had his latest exhibition in the YONO Gallery in Santiago, Chile and participated in a national artistic envoy to Bienal de Santa Cruz in Bolivia. In 2011 he had a collective show in Mexico, other collective shows in Chile and a solo show in Galería Enlace, in Lima, Peru. Between 2007 and 2010 he was an artist at Moro Gallery, and participated in various expositions and fairs within and outside of the country. In 2009 he displayed a part of his collection in Y Gallery, New York, and at the National University Gallery in Medellín, Colombia. In 2008 he showed his video Sueños Remotos at the Barcelona Art Festival BAC and at RE:NEW, the Digital Media Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark.
He has been awarded two grants from the Council for Culture and Arts, Fondart, and his pieces are part of the collection of Luciano Benetton, Windsor & Newton and the United Brewing Company CCU.
